Course Descriptions
The Symbol
In every department and program, some courses are marked with the
symbol. Generally, these courses are considered especially appropriate for first-year students or upperclass students new to that discipline.
QR Courses
Starting with members of the Class of 2005, the requirements for
graduation include a quantitative-reasoning requirement. All students must
earn at least 1/2 Kenyon unit of credit in a course, or courses, designated
as fulfilling this requirement. The Course of
Study indicates these courses with the abbreviation
QR, placed beside the course number. For example, the listing for "Elements
of Statistics" (MATH 106) appears as follows:
Elements of Statistics
QR MATH 106 (1/2 unit)
Students may use a course to satisfy the
quantitative-reasoning requirement only if the course
is listed as a QR course during the semester they take it. In the
2002-03 academic year, the following departments and programs offer
QR courses: biology, chemistry, economics, mathematics, philosophy,
physics, psychology, and scientific computing.
Additional Courses
The course listings and descriptions presented in the Course of
Study are accurate as of March 15, 2002. Some departments have added new
courses or deleted courses since that date. These changes are posted in
"Course catalog--supplement," accessible from the registrar's web page. The
web pages of individual departments also have information on course
offerings.
